can the credit card company garnish my wages if I am not the primary in Illinois

Yes, a credit card company can garnish your wages only if they can sue you to the court and bring judgment against you. However, if the debt is old and the statute of limitation on the debt has expired, the creditor cannot bring judgment against you to recover it. Moreover, there are 4 states in US where wage cannot be garnished. They are Texas, PA and N and S Carolina. However, the creditor can garnish your bank account even in these 4 states.

Can anybody tell me if I do not have a job, how can my wage be garnished? Can the creditor garnish social security to recover credit card debt?

When a creditor brings a judgment against you, it does not mean that the creditor needs to garnish your wages immediately. Judgment has its own Statute of Limitation and the creditor need to start the garnishment process within the Statute of Limitation period of judgment.
Social security can never be garnished for recovery of credit card debt. However, it can be garnished to recover Federal Tax, and alimony and child support obligations.

Welcome Guest, Carol is correct your social security can not be garnished as a way of paying back old debt. Have you had a judgement filed against you? Please let us know the details and what stae you are in. Also if there has been a judgemnt filed you will need to inform the bak that you do business through that the funds in that account are from social security wages. Get us a little more information and I am sure we can help you better.
