my daughter had her tonsils out in july of 08, and we have paid something every month from then until now,but because it wasn't paid in full, we were turned over to cbe group, our final check was sent to the hospital the procedure was done at and cleared through the bank on jan 8,2009, and today is Feb 16, we get phone calls 2 or 3 times a week saying we still owe them money. I've even mailed them a copy of our cleared check. Is there anything else we can do to get them to stop calling us. I have told them to call the hospital and clear it up with them, they said they couldn't do that. Any suggestions?

Yes, you should check your credit report and find out whether they have listed the debt in your credit report or not. If they have listed it in your credit report, you should immediately send them a debt validation letter by certified mail asking them to validate your debt. If you do not find them listed in your credit report, you need not worry. You should not proceed any further until and unless you receive any collection letters from them.

If they call your up or send you collection letters you can ask for debt validation where they need to provide you with details of the outstanding debt. But if they disturb you without validating the debt, you can file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission first. As far as I know, filing a complaint with the FTC is very much effective in resolving your problem. However, you should keep the bank statement as a proof that you have already made the payment in full.

thanks for all the advise, as of today it is not cleared up. They are blaming it on the hospital. They said the hospital has no record the bill has been paid. I am calling the hospital in the morning to clear it up on that end. We'll see who's telling the truth.

Thanks

If you have the bank statement showing that you have made the payment to the hospital, you can use it as a proof that the payment has been made. You should also send a debt validation letter to check whether the name of the CBE group that claims your debt actually owns it or not? If they cannot validate the debt, but still call you up over phone, just file a complaint against them with the FTC.

Most likely they are calling in the attempt to collect a debt. Tough times for creditors as many people are losing their jobs and livelyhoods.

most likely they are calling because you defaulted on a debt. Debt collectors often use "HarrASSment" tactics in the attempt to collect a debt.
Regardless, in this day and age of Identity theft, I would NEVER give anyone personal information over the telephone.
Maybe Obama will pay your debt for you, heck, he's printing money faster than ever.... GOD BLESS AMERICA

I have been dealing with this same type of issue. Let me tell you the hospitol does not keep the best contact woth their debt collection agency. My hospitol turned me over to one due to co-payments that had been made that they said were not. I went directly to the hospitol, called my hewalth care insurer, and the debt collection agency. The wires are all still crossed so I am doing as Mary suggested and just waiting to see if it ends up on my report..then I will dispute. If that does not work I am not sure what else to do. I know how impossible it is to clear something up through a hospitol.

Rolling Eyes I Hope they enjoy only hearing, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring and then getting DISCONNECTED from the call! Laughing [/b]

Hi CECILE,

CBE Group Inc. is a collection agency. It is possible they were inquiring in regard to a debt you owe them. You can check your credit report. If you find CBE Group Inc. listed on your report, you can send them a Debt Validation Letter.

I have no debt whatsoever, none on my credit reports, but they keep calling my house. I don't answer the call when I see they are on caller ID. I have not gotten any collection letters from anyone whatsoever. My credit is stellar. So what's up with that?

I agree with several aspects of these responses. They have to notify you in writing all the information about the debt. This should have happened before they called you. I would start a log of all the calls, and see if this validation questions comes into play. If it doesn't then record it as it not happening. If it does, have them validate the debt. They have 30 days to do so in writing. I keep getting a call from them, and they don't send me anything. ALl I do is record the call. I don't have to ask them why they are calling.

You could also make those phone calls to the FTC. It really is one of the quickest ways to get rid of these types of calls. Also go the extra mile and call your atty general. These people will take the hint because they hate to be reported.

Write these people a letter asking them to refrain from calling you - you are protected under the "Debt Collection Practices ACT" or FDCPA.
