Has anyone dealt with CBE Group inc, they keep calling my house, I have not picked it up, I don't feel like dealing with them. So has anyone dealt with them, if so how are they?

I am going to go to the debt forum and plug it in there and see what I get.

Did you google them to see who they were? How about checking BBB?
I just googled and it is a collection agency.

Yes, the company has a satisfactory record as per BBB standards as Anthony said. But this does not necessarily mean that there are no complaints against them. All debt collectors use some illegal tactics to collect the debt. However, you should equip yourself with credit knowledge to deal with them. If they have called you up over the phone, they need to send you a debt validation notice in writing within 5 days to convey to you your right to dispute the validity of the debt within 30days. However, if they do not send you such letter, I don't think that you are anyway liable for the debt.

You may have an old debt which has been sold off to the CBE group. I think you should pull out your credit report to find out whether they have already reported such debt to the bureaus. If you are sure that you do not owe such debt, send dispute letters to the bureau asking them to remove the listing from your report. However, if you are not sure about the debt, you should send a DV letter to the CA asking them to validate the debt.

Gn I know how hard you have worked to clear up all these past debts. Are you sure this isn't one you have already taken care of? I would do as Mary suggested and look at your report. Knowing you it is laying somewhere in reach. See if they are on there and if they are check to see the statutes on this debt. If it is past then maybe you should leave it. If it isn't..then see if you have already paid them. Hopefully it is something past SOL or already dealt with. Good luck.

Yes I am sure, I called today and it is for a direct tv bill, I told the guy that I just got my final bill in the mail yesterday and that I would be dealing with direct tv. He was really descent about it, I had to wait until the credited the recievers and everything and wait on the final bill, The collector said as soon as they go delinquent that they will send them to collection. He was really nice about it,s o I thought I will send him ac copy of the confirmation number from direct tb.

This is really good news GN. Don't you hate though how people just get a bill and it gets turned over? Doubleday bookclub did alot of this to me. In the end they owed me money and actually thought that I would use my credit to purchase another book. I demanded a refund and to have the account closed...too much hassle for me. What did you switch to since you left DTV?

They have called me, however, they are asking for Personal Identifying Information before they will tell me what they are calling about. I am sorry, I don't even know what they are calling about, or who they are, or if they are who they say they are, so why should I give them my address, SSN, birthdate, etc. first?

They are a pain in the rear end, they call every night, I need a little more time to have the money to pay them. In the mean time they are gonna drive me nuts.

Hi RED
If they are calling you up, then why should they ask you for your personal identification number. They must be knowing it before calling you. You should never give anybody your social security number because if they really owe the debt they should have it with them. But if you disclose it to anybody, it may lead to identity theft. Moreover, you should check your credit report to find out whether the CBE listing is there in your report against any debt.

Yes you should not give them any personal info. Mary is correct they are calling you and if this is a real debt they should already have all this info on file. Hopefully you will send a debnt validation letter by certified mail to see if they really own the debt.
Gn...most of these places will in fact drive someone nuts. Once they make the first contact with you and see that it is possible to get your attention they will not let up. You can only do so much so just let the phone ring until you are ready to deal with them.
