Subject: Paying off the OC then disputing the CA....does this work?

I have an old cable bill that is still owned by the OC but, has gone to a CA. The OC did not list the debt on my CR but, the CA did. Now I heard that if you pay the OC then dispute the CAs listing it will be removed. My concern is that the listing will just get updated. Does anyone know for certain if this would work or if paying the OC still leaves me open to a "paid collection" mark on my CR. Confused

The debt was legitimately placed on your credit report by the CA, so it can stay...have you tried PFD?

I think that the CA has not done any wrong from his side for which you can challenge as he can always report your debt to the CRA which in turn gets reflected in your credit report. You can sent a debt validation letter to the CA and can come to a pay for deletion agreement. Only if you come to a PFD agreement, you can get the negative element out of your report, else it will stay in your report for seven years and hamper your credit score.

SOmetimes if the amount is not that high they will not even verify the amount. Cable companies, phone companies, and insurance companies are notorious for not responding to disputed info

I am aware that I should go for a PFD. My question is if I cant get the CA to agree to the PFD should I then pay the OC and dispsute the CAs listing? It would be incorrect after I pay it b/c it will have been paid....
