I agree GN. It doesn't make much since. Especially if the acccount is past SOL. The worst they can do at that point is call you and you can even gwt that to stop. So if there isn't any benefit in it I can see why people let old accounts go. I imagine there would be a higher rate of old debt payoff if it would have a better impact on someones credit.

I will never pay off another one that is past sol, of course I never intend on having any more negative accounts, it took me too long to clean up my negatives.

Rolling Eyes I hate NCO!! Sorry, these guys are idiots! I sent them a cease and desist..certified and all the bells and whistles..they are walking right thru it. Phone calls 5-6 times a day. I have everything documented, of course..but they get sneaky...they have like 500 call numbers (might I suggest callferret to look them up)...they will never verify anything..they don't have proof.

Say nothing, get it all in writing. Keep records.

I have a feeling I am going to be seeing the inside of a court room with these idiots. Currently, I am sitting on about 14,000 for violations to the FDCPA act. Now, if I just get the gumpsion to go after them:-)

Be careful! They have addresses everywhere..branches

Maybe that is what they need. If they aren't responding to any of the letters to quit calling then you can also report them to BBB and other places. Is your debt in SOL?

true, but some of them ignore the letters, so it is good to send them certified, return reciept requested.

You are absolutely right erb, with all the collectors that I have dealt with I send everything certified mail and return reciept requested and I have recently started sending copies of my request to the states attorney generals office in my state and in the state of the collector, I usually don't hear from them after that.

I always add an extra letter that starts like this,

To insure that my rights are protected under fcra laws I have forwarded a copy of this debt validation to my states attorney general and yours. and go from there, like I said, normally I won't hear from them after that.

Goood thinking there. I like the extra you put into these letters GN. I am waiting to be sure the SOL on my protects me and I am gonna start sending cease and desists. They don't really contact much (I am knocking on the wood of my desk here) so usually a file 13 after reading what riduculous amount they cam e up with.

I don't even open them, I have one that is outstanding, I just ran into the paperwork while cleaning, waiting to see if they will give me a descent payment arrangement.

You should open them up and take a peak at them, you never know what they are tacking on or what type of offer they may be giving you. I don't think you should ever just pitch them with out opening them first.

I do open them just to make sure there isn't anything actually important in there. I usually get frustrated seeing that a 300 card turned into a 2000 dollar one. The worst part is it wasn't even 300 when I went over the lim it. There was suppose to be a one time fee of $99. I wanted to start my credit and thought that would be the way to go. A year later I was at $250 or less on the card and they added on another yearly fee of $99. Of course then there was over the limit fees and they wanted a huge payment I couldn't make so I sent what I could after calling them and you know whre it goes from there.

They would not be satisfied with the smaller amount that you sent them right? They sometimes think that you just have a pot of money laying around for them to access, this kind of thinking really irritates me.

No they ewanted the full amount at that time. Nothing less. I would send them what I could every month but the payment and over all amount kept climbing so fast it got out of control and I just let it go. What could I do? I was just spinning in place going nowhere...really fast.

I know the feeling, seems like when you are trying to clean it up you have so many hurdles in the way.
