NCO is a collection agency, apparently they have picked up an old unpaid bill of yours and is now trying to collect it. You will probably start hearing from them now that you have check your report, most of these companies put a tickler on the credit reports and when the consumer checks their report the collection activity will begin.
If they don't contact you, you can contact them if you feel that you do not owe any old debt. You can also dispute this. _________________ Goodnatured,

Since the name NCO is listed in your credit report, it must be a collection agency to whom your creditor has sold off your debt. To know that whether you actually owe the debt or not, send them a debt validation letter. Wait for 30 days from the date they receive the letter. If they validate your debt then check whether their validation is correct or not. If you find the validation correct go for a repayment agreement with the CA and request for PFD. If you do not agree with the validation send a dispute letter to the CRA requesting them to remove the listing. _________________ Where there's a will, there's a way !! |

I agree with Mary at this point. To find out whether you actually owe the debt or not, you need to send a DV letter to NCO financial, whose address you will find in the credit report. If you do not agree with the validation you can always dispute the listing with the credit bureau to get it removed from the credit report. _________________ Anthony Marx

Glad to be able to help, they probably will not validate, usually what I have found is that the original creditor do not give these collectors enough information, like the original contract between the debtor and the creditor. Once they sell it off, the original paperwork is normally a lost cause and the collector can not produce it.
I have to say though that NCO was one of the easier ones to deal with, at one time I had three collectors on me at one time and the other two could get pretty nasty. Hopefully they will come to an agreement that is good for you and them, normally they will give you a descent settlement amount that is much less than the original amount and they should make a descent payment arrangement with you that you can afford.
goodluck and keep us updated. _________________ Goodnatured,

If they can't validate your debt within 30 days from the date of their receipt of the letter, we can always send a dispute letter to the Credit bureaus telling them that you do not agree with the listing of the CA. So watsthis can definitely try it out and get it removed from the credit report and increase his credit score. _________________ Where there's a will, there's a way !! |

Great point Mary, I wonder if they will confirm it with the credit reporting agency? I also wonder what the credit reporting agency takes as confirmation, sometimes I wonder, I have disputed and they always seem to give enough information to keep it on the report. _________________ Goodnatured,

| NCO Financial is NOT one of the best. They tried to put back, on a CR, a debt that was over 11 years old. And it wasn't in my name anymore...it was in my ex's name. God..that was a mess to take care of. They were calling me, too, about this account. |

Did they manage to put it back on your report? Did you file a dispute with them or with the credit reporting agency? _________________ Goodnatured,

| About 3 years ago, they DID put it back on my CR. However..I did dispute it and it was taken off...SOL expired and was no longer in my name. God...these people are crazy!! Did they really think i would 'restart' a debt that was THAT old and no longer in MY name?! |

Hi sdchargers
What actually happens is that as far as I know, if they can make you agree for a royalty payment, the SOL will again start off. In that case they can sue you to the court if you do not pay the entire debt. So we should always be aware of such fraud. Moreover, if your debt is about 11 years old, there is no point in repaying it because it can no more be listed in your credit report. _________________ Anthony Marx

| true, it is an old debt, I would not bother with it either, if you do pay a dime you start the statute of limitation all over again. |

| I was reading this post and seen something mentioned about a tickler. What is that? How can they legally know if you are checking your report? That all sounds a little unfair to me. I don't think collectors should have knowledge of msomething like that. It is almost like someone spying on you. |

You know I agree with you, I mean if you think about it, a doctors office is not allowed to give out your information with out your permission, why should the credit reporting agencies be allowed to disclose your information to these collectors that don't have your best intrest in mind. I think that these credit reporting agencies should be in violation of some law, some where when they disclose with out your permission.
I think that this is something worth more investigation. Does anyone know the laws and rights to privacy that a consumer has when it comes to financial records and who has the right to view or make use of them the way that they see fit. |
