i received a collection letter today form sentry claiming that i owe a debt to compucredit; most shoking is that i don't even own that account and it's not on my credit report.
i sent a debt validation letter and will wait for their response and then send another letter telling them that 30 days have passed since i requested a DV letter and include cease and desist terms in that letter.
anyone had that experience; how can i received a collection letter for something i never opened or owed. can they conduct such a scam. i am getting really frustrated.
anyone know how i can exclude my name and information to reach all these different companies; i have a feeling that they have a list that they sell to each other. how can i be unlisted
thanks

Hi Question,

The collection agency is unable to validate your debt right? If still they are pursuing with the debt, you can write another cease and desist letter including that you intend to file a lawsuit against them. If they still pursue, then you have to file a complaint with the FTC and the State Attorney General against the collection agency.

question, You are correct. More and more companies, especially collection agencies, are either becoming increasingly fraudulent or do not keep accurate records and get important things like this messed up. It takes people like you who are fed up to start reporting them. You can make the calls Justin suggested and have the atty general deal with them. It would not hurt to also include the better business bureau. The more you show them you will push this matter the more likely they will not bother you or anyone else.

is there a way i can unlitst myself from any list that goes to the collection agencies and their attorneys; i used to have bad credit but everything is paid off now; however i received this "ghost debt" and i believe it's because they have a list of people with bad credit and they are trying to intimidate them; how can i go on about removing myself from any list?
thanks
