I just got off the phone with American Express. They told me they sold my account to GC Services. I asked why then are you still sending me monthly statements which includes interest every month? The guy I spoke to said "because legally we are obligated to keep you informed." He said that GC services owns the loan and reports any payments, etc to American Express. This didn't make sense to me and when I told him they must still own the loan he said no. He said any payments or payment arrangements have to go through GC Services. Then GC Services passes the payment information to American Express. I don't get it.
This means that AMEX has not sold the debt to the GC services, they have only authorized them to collect the debt. First check it whether the name of GC sevices is present anywhere in your statement. If it is not, ask AMEX to give you a written notice that you are required to paythe debt to GC services.
