Subject: CA collecting loan already paid off - What to do?

I have few student loans that I consolidated 10years back and they were paid off in June 2005. Now I have a collection agency calling me for defaulted student loans. Now these loans have been transferred from one CA to another over the years. The CA does not even mention an exact amount I owe. While I spoke to them it was different and they have sent a written notice that has a different amount. I don't want to end up paying for what has already been paid off. What can I do? Can they sue me for these debts?

Hi Christie,

Did you get a written contract from the debt consolidation company, when you consolidated your debts? If you got one, the debts that were included in the consolidation program will be mentioned on it. In case the student loan for which the CA contacted you, is included in the consolidation program, it has already been paid off. To stop the CA from further contacting you, send them a Cease and Desist Letter.
