Remove items from credit report to improve credit score

I have a collection on my account for a medical bill. I was covered by my insurance for this procedure. I called the insurance company about this and they said that they paid the bill in full and that I am not responsible for any portion of the bill, nor can this medical facility legally bill me for anything extra because they are under contract with Aetna to take the Aetna rates. I have tried calling the collection agency numerous times to remove items from credit report but I always get a voicemail and never get a call back. I disputed the account with the credit bureaus and within only one week they said they concluded the investigation and the account is valid and is staying on my report. I don't know what else I can do for removing items from credit report. It has affected my score by almost 100 points. How can the credit bureaus say this is a valid charge and is there anything else I can do to get it taken off. I want it GONE- I do not want to simply add a statement to my report I want it OFF because it is lowering my score. Do I have any other recourse? Do you know how to remove items from credit report?

Can you tell us the name of the collection agency whose name you find in your credit report so that I can help you out in this forum?
If the insurance company had paid the medical bill, you can ask the insurance company to provide you with a copy of the proof that they have made the payment towards the medical company. If you have the proof you can dispute the listing along with the copy of the proof to the credit bureaus and ask them to remove items from credit report.

Find out the address of the collection agency from the Better Business website and send them a debt validation letter by certified mail. If they have already received the payment from the insurance company, they will not be able to validate the debt and you may send a copy of the return receipt to the credit bureaus asking them to remove items from credit report. If they do not remove the debt from your report, you may file a complaint with the FTC. Filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission is very much effective in such cases.

Thank you for your response. The name of the collection agency is listed on my report as CMRE FINANCIAL SVCS INC.

I was wondering if someone could tell me how to go about fixing credit - I received a $25,000 operation for a torn knee ligament through a program called MSI and then MSI decided not to pay the doctor! Now I have a $25,682 "ding" on my credit! Do I have any rights? Can this be fixed??? Thanks as I'd like to buy a house someday. . .

I am currently facing a similar situation and would appreciate any help. In Nov. 2007 i had an emergency at Century City Doctors hospital in Los Angeles. I had Kaiser insurance so Kaiser isurance was given to century city hospital within a week of the treatment. We recieved a letter from Kaiser stating how much century city billed them, and how much was paid. The letter also stated that i was not at all responsible for the balance except for a 5.00 dollar co-payment fee if i were to be billed for it. I did not recieve any bills or notification from century city up until 2 weeks ago when i recieved a letter from CMRE stating that i have to pay around 400 dollars for the same services which looks like a balance plus interest. I contacted kaiser again and they again responded that i was not responsible and they sent a letter to century city hospital requesting them to stop billing me immediately. However, i found out that century city hospital has gone bankrupt, you can not contact anybody there. What should i do?

I just want to let everyone know (pretty excited about this!!) that I had some negative items on my credit report. I dispute an item on credit report that has been there for more than 7 years. A few of them came off!! YEAH!! One, however, is a mystery to me because one of the items I have on there is from a furniture store that hasn't been in business in 6 or 7 years. It's only been on my credit for 4 or 5 years...however...when I try to 'dispute' it, the credit bureaus seem to tell me that the debt has been "validated." How does that happen when the place is no longer in existence? Any ideas?
