Subject: Ltr from Progressive Mgmt Systems

I recd a ltr from Progressive Mgmt Systems dated 4/2/08-I just found it in some old mail. This debt is not appearing on my credit report and I just found out it is a valid amt that was owed to a hospital. Should I just send a PFD ltr even though it's not on my CR?

You can definately try. I would still send a debt validation letter before paying the bill. It is always best. If they can not prove the debt then they aren't considered as owning it. Could you call the hospitol and see about paying them directly? Why worry about the pay for delete if it isn't listed? Did you check all three credit reports. I have mad bills listed on one but teh others don't. If it is listed make sure you get the PFD in writing.

Yes, I did check all 3 CRs and it doesn't appear. The same company does appear but for another hospital bill and I've already sent a DV letter on that one. I will try calling the hospital and see if I can pay directly. That's a good idea. Thanks for the help!!

Hi mortgagevictim
Since PMS has sent you the mail on Feb 08, and one month have already passed, there is no use in sending a debt validation letter, because the DV letter should be sent within 30 days of receipt of the letter from them. Now since the debt no longer appear in your credit report, it may be that the seven year listing period in your credit report has already expired. Now you should first check whether the SOL for the debt has expired or not. If it has expired, then there is no need to pay off the debt, else you can send a pay for deletion letter.

This debt was incurred 10/07 so the SOL hasn't passed yet. I've had other dealings with this CA and I'm surprised it hasn't appeared on my CRs. They usually waste no time putting it on your reports. I think eventually it would have hit it. I ended up going on the hospital's website and paid the bill---without PMS' interest they tack on. The OC accepted the payment. I printed off the receipt and will keep it just in case PMS decides to pursue the debt. Or maybe I should send them a letter letting them know I paid the OC. What does everyone think?

I would probaly send them the letter and a COPY of the reciept. Ask that they no longer contact you over this matter because it has been taken care of. Also maybe the hospitol themselves can call or send a letter to the collector telling them that the debt is no longer valid.

fireyone, thanks for the suggestions. I actually think I'll do both. That way, I will cover myself just in case.

Always a good idea to keep all bases cocered in the credit world because it is soo hard to get things off your record once they appear. Good Luck and let us know how it all works out.
