Subject: Does anyone have a sample letter

that I can personalize and send to a collection agency to request that they remove negative (already settled) items from my credit report? I am attempting to raise my credit score from 575 to 620 so I'll be able to get into a rent-to-own home through a lender. Removing the negative items should accomplish that task.

If I had known about pay to delete I would have gone that route, but I didn't know it at the time that I settled the respective accounts.

I know this is a long shot since there is nothing in this for the CA but I'm hoping a well written, courteous letter may have some influence.

A sample letter or any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hi BigLebowski,

If you have any written proof (any canceled checks would do) that you have paid off the debts, then you can dispute directly with the credit bureaus. You should send them a "Dispute Letter", clearly mentioning the debt accounts you are disputing. You should enclose documents to support your viewpoint. You may also enclose a copy of your credit report, marking the item you are disputing. You will find a sample "Dispute Letter" in the Letters of Credit section.

In case you do not have any written proof in support of the debts being paid off, you can send a "Goodwill Letter" to the CA. You can use the same format, but must replace the name of the creditor with the name of the collection agency. If you are able to convince the CA of your situation and the problems you are facing (because of the negative listing on your credit report), he may agree to report to the bureaus that the debt accounts have been paid off.

Good luck to you Smile
