How do I get a collection agency to respond to my letters?

I've been trying to validate a debt that collection agency says that I owe. I've sent two certified letters and they do not respond to me. On top of that they started reporting this alleged debt to credit bureaus. When I call Experian to start a dispute they tell me that they can't intervene and it's between me and the collection agency. CA is supposed to stop reporting to CRAs if they can't validate the debt but I just can't get a respond from them, what are the options here?

Hi Guest,

Can you tell whether or not you have tried to dispute this with other credit bureaus? If you have not try doing so. Write a dispute letter and along with it attach copies of the return receipts of the validation letters. Mention in the letter that they weren't able to validate your debt.

Another option that you have is sending 623 dispute letters to the collection agency. A 623 dispute letter is used when the creditor, or collection agency (information furnisher) fails to provide information on the debt. If you get no response from the collection agency, you can send a letter to credit bureaus requesting them to explain as to how the debt got reported when the information furnisher is unable to provide you with proper information.

You can even sue the tradeline furnisher for failing to answer to your 623 dispute. You can complain this to your State Attorney General.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Aaron

good advice Aaron.

I would also send a MOV letter to the CRAs with copies of your green cards to the CA.

Method of Verification asks why the CRAs are still reporting something when you get zero responses to your inquiries.
