I'm very new to trying to understand all this Credit stuff but trying very hard to build my credit score. I ordered "score watch" from myfico.com and it says that Afni-bloom if an account on my credit.

I am further confused because of the date discrepancies (see below). How is the date opened newer then the date of last activity? I would very much like this gone from my credit and am happy to pay it to have it gone. My worry is that paying it will not get rid of it. What is my best plan of action and does anyone have contact info for this company? I am in the process of trying to raise my score 15 points to buy a house so I am afraid of a score even temporarily dropping with any actions I may take. Am I better off setting up payments or paying it off all at once etc. I have no idea of the "rules" to best help my score.

Hi Red,

You need to send a "debt validation letter" to this collection agency. Validation of debt provides you with all the information about your debt. With the validation you even get to know if the collection agency truly has the authorization to collect.

You will get a sample validation letter at http://www.creditmagic.org/repair/sampleletter-debtvalidation.html .

Their address:

PO Box 3427 Bloomington,
IL 61702-3427

Phone no: (877) 403-0670
Fax no: (309) 828-0931

However remember to send the letter through certified mail requesting a return receipt (CMRRR). In this way you will be able to retain the proof that you had sent the letter. If the agency doesn't validate your debt, you can use this proof to dispute the item off your report.

As for the dates, you can ask AFNI to update your report, only after they validate your debt.

However, if they validates your debt, while making the payment arrangement request them to agree to a "Pay for delete" (PFD) agreement. With PFD your account will get reported as "Paid".

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Aaron

I am trying to raise my score too, I just seen my husbands score jump 7 points simply by paying down a balance.

my question is, I have a few cards that are paid but in the negative column of my report, one will fall off this year and the other two will fall off early next year, how much or will this raise my score once these fall off????

paying off a debt does not remove it from your credit report. Also reducing your credit utilization is useful but only shaves a few points. usually the biggest point jump will be from the last negative to zero negatives

Hi cjones,

You will have to pull a copy of your credit report to check out the details of the account with Afni Bloom.

Thanks,

Aaron

So - I just signed up for Credit Counseling and ANFI-BLOOM is on MY credit report for $173.00??

Is this a scam from Nigeria or what?
