Credit Points problem

If I avoid these things should I get better credit points.
*skipping payments,
*making late payments,
* going beyond the card limits
* filing bankruptcy.

Any other reason?

I read here that through time when derogatories fall of that your score will raise on its own, you may want to pulll your credit report and see when the derogatories will drop off and you can go from there.

also, I know this from experience, like morningstar mentioned having too high of a balance will drop your credit score. actually i read that if you go beyond the 50% level of your maximum your score will drop and I know that's true. I had to go around the 50% mark on a credit card I have now and my score dropped 2 points :( we had to have a car repair. now we learned our lesson since we want to improve our scores and buy a home in the future

I hope you buy in the area, would hate to see you go, but would not want to hold you back either.

I know they do a credit to debt ratio, at least they did when we did our mortgage.

Oh gosh good, I'm so overwhelmed right now with the debt we have, the one income, the little $$ in the bank, i'm scared to move sometimes. I had someone tell me to compare rates of the banks but after they present you with all the paperwork i just look at the overall experience and get drowned out with fear. not responsible i know. my husband works at the local university so we're hoping to buy a home near there, if not buy then rent one. our little one is getting to active for our apartment :) i'm sure we could get approved for a loan but the interest would be bad i'm sure of it. our former neighbors were far worse than we were and they got approved for a loan with a really bad interest rate. still their home is theirs! I sometimes feel it'll never happen. I need a job i think before we do anything
we're planning on staying where we are :)

I am really happy to hear that, once you get on your feet you will be able to find something that fits your needs and your budget. How is the job hunt going for you?

Debtstinker........I know things are overwhelming right now, and it seems like there is 'no way out', but..........the advice I can give you ( being a single mom with just MY income coming into the home) is to 'keep trucking'. SOMETHING will come along the way, to help. Whether it is for a house payment or rent, etc. If you 'don't give up', something will be there. The best advice, I can give is to try and take things 'one at a time'. deal with each 'item' of you debt one at a time. It won't seem so overwhelming that way. Help this helps a bit.

hey sd...you are so supportive and i thank you and goodnatured for that!
good, i have an interview this coming tuesday, hope this materializes as my past interviews have led nowhere but it's a blessing too because i re evaluted those positions and it was in my best interest that i didn't get those jobs. i'll keep y aposted.
SD, you can tell you're a momma :) and i love that! very kind to give me the advice you have...gosh my hubby and i just had a fight over finances and he's going to DC over the course of the week :( i think as a young couple just starting out you look at what you want and it's frustrating not having the resources to get it. I will not give up I can't. our baby needs that determination and i know his dad won't either. i have a horrible tendency to panic and look at the picture and distort it rather than taking one small thing at a time. i'm still learning.

You will be fine, even though you are a young couple you have chosen to learn from your past mistakes, you are not continuing to build debt, that is your first wise step, you are a master at finding ways of making money on the side and pinching your pennies when you need to. Staying involved in forums like this is a good support group, we all need to keep us focused. So anytime you are feeling distorted, come on by, we will get you back in focus, LOL.

I feel shame, i'm distorted literally, just ate Chinese and spent $20 : ( oh well...no in all seriousness we are trying in fact we just talked last night about our goal to buy a home. in this area you can buy but selling is another story. it looks like we're planting our roots here which is good because there was a possible job for us back where we went to grad school but the area is ridden with crime not a good place to raise our son at all. at least here we have the piece of mind knowing it's safe even if the homes don't sell. to us, having a home and being safe is just too important! thanks good :)

true, you have to take all this in consideration when purchasing a home, the education system is another thing to consider. Crime is definately a factor, no use living somewhere where you won't feel safe. I think you will make the right decision when the time comes. Goodluck with your job lead tommorro, hope things work out, keep us updated on the job, should be a good thing, right. I look forward to reading positive things here tommorro night.

What kind of crime are you talking about debtstinker?

Hi Laura,
where hubby and I went to grad school there were sections too close to the university for comfort that are still ridden with drugs, robberies, rapes, etc. my husband knew a guy who would just walk the streets and ask him for money...he became a regular and we knew that he didn't really want to harm anyone he just needed money. well not too long ago they found him with a sword in his chest...i noticed it there...when i was sleeping in bed once there was a shot right behind the house and i had to duck on the floor at 3 am and watch as the shooters literally sat on our car while the cops took 30 minutes to respond. just not a good neighborhood. here, where we are now you don't have to worry much about that stuff at all.

It is good you are in a fairly safe neighborhood now. I go to the local correctional facility once a month for work. It is truely sad the young lives that are wasting away behind those walls, the majority of them are drug related offenses. Some of these young men have been locked up since they were 12 or 13, I think it is such a waste of young life, these are all products of the inner city life.

Tue, 11/06/2007 - 20:48 Permalink

When talking to these young men to see what went wrong they will often say that no one cared, teachers don't care, church don't care, mom was high but the drug dealer cared. What a way to live.

These people are actually mentally weak and find recourse in doing drugs. To some extent family is responsible and then of course the company that they keep.

Its good to hear that now you are in a safe place. Whats the use of being ina place where the police responds after 30 minutes. Where remains the safety of the citizen then?

How how sad!! As you said...so many wasted lives!! I see alot of children who don't have a 'role model', because of what ever circumstance. However....too many kids blame their lives on what happened in the past. Granted.............some kids may have had difficult lives, but, as they grow up, they DO have a choice whether or not they still WANT to 'stay within that realm' ( lack of a better word). Look at Judge Mathis. I watch him sometimes, and I REALLY admire him. He's been to jail when he was younger, really din't have a role model, etc. He put himself through Law School, etc. WOW!!! That's a good example that people DO have choices.

Wed, 11/07/2007 - 08:56 Permalink

Yes they do have choices. Infact I personally feel that these people are selfish who blame the world for the plight that they put themselves into. They do it by choice.

Look if I have a bad childhood that does not mean that I will go berserk and destroy my life as well well as others. I would rather want to be like people who have done good in life and work towards it. I think thats the difference between sanity and insanity. The approach towards life is what matters and of course the surroundings.
