Subject: J Hass Group

Posted on Sun Nov 08, 2009 1:15 pm

I have been with J Hass Group for exactly one year now. I have had only one debt settled during this whole year. I do believe that their fee and now a bank account that they say I have is a bit shady because I have never seen where exactly my money is going. They will not allow me to see the balance in the account they have set up for me. It's also interesting that the one company they settled with takes the money directly from my personal bank account and not the one they say they have set up for me.

I'm not sure where I stand with them at any point in time. I have other creditors that want to settle but J Hass says I don't have enough money in my account to settle them.

My problem with that is if you set up my account, I agreed to pay you the set amount for 40 months, why aren't you working on each settlement now. You will eventually get my account straight. So they take their fee first. Do they take their fee and run? I'm not sure yet. And I'm not sure if they are doing better than what I could have done by myself.

I have never heard of the company before, usually once they pay off one account all the money that went toward that account should be split up over the others, why would they set up an account for you, you could have done that yourself right? Does not make much sense to me.

I would be asking them to provide a monthly statement with your balance on it and any and all activity that has to do with the money that you are sending to them. They should have no problem providing this if they are legit, right?

All is good with most of them but please check them out first. I suggest you try and negotiate by settlement letters by certified mail on your own to see if you can save yourself some money. Never call a creditor to negotiate, they will have you all confused and by the time the screaming is done, you will agree to anything. Send out debt validation first, and it you did make the debt, then negotiate with them in writing by certified mail only. Never give them your bank info. either. If you agree make sure it is a pay for delete letter. Then send a certified check or money order. never negotiate by phone. Good Luck. One day at a time. Ruthie

Ruthie,

We have all been there and some of us are still working our way out, it is not an easy road that is for sure, easy to get in the mess, hard to get out.

Hopefully, once you have gotten everything taken care of you will stick around and share your experiences with new comers to help them all out. Most of us here have learned from experience, best teacher right, these lessons stick with you.

Good to have you here.

J. Hass Group has an F rating with the Better Business Bureau.

We signed up with this company in the belief that they were licensed and had the ability to help us resolve our debt issues. The contract we signed stated that J. Hass Group did not recommend that the client stop making payments to their creditors. They stated that it was our decision whether or not to stop making payments. However, we were specifically advised in our initial meeting to stop making payments. We have been making payments to a savings account from which they would eventually make payments to settle our debt. At this point, it doesn't appear they have done anything on our behalf other than take our money. We have since learned more about our situation and the remedies that are available to us without this company. In addition, we have learned that the company is not licensed and that according to Ariz. Rev. Statute 6-133 (2008) (criminalizing as a felony, violations of Ariz. Rev. Stat. 6-703 & 6-715 (2008) (prohibiting unlicensed debt management), with "each day of violation [consulting] a separate offense") they should not be acting as a debt management company!

You CAN get out of your contract with them. READ the contract. DD just sent a registered letter and went to the bank to stop payments to J. Hass Group.

DH just settled a debt for DD that was nearly $10,000 for $3,500 on his own. J. Hass was not doing anything.

Lots of good solid advice on that site.
