What do I do after 30 days and no response?

I sent a DV letter to the collector on a debt they allege that I owe, I sent it certified and have not received a response within the 30 day frame.

Hi Guest,

There is no such rule mentioning that the collection agency will have to send answer to debt validation within 30 days. Fair Debt Collections Practices Act rather mentions that the debtor is required to send a debt validation letter within 30 days of the first collection attempt made by the collection agency.

Can you tell whether or not you have sent the letter through certified mail, requesting a return receipt? Wait for some time, and if the collection agency does not respond to your letter, send them a second validation letter through certified mail, requesting a return receipt. Mention in this letter that they had not responded to the first one, and that if they fail to respond this time too, you are going to dispute the item with the credit bureaus.

You will get a sample debt validation letter with this community which you can use to write one of your own.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Aaron

Hi, Im new to this too.

Aaron, I had initiated a dispute online (dumb I know, will not make the same mistake) about a tradeline that I never had.

My dispute of the debt came back verified and I sent a Debt Validation letter to the collector, but I never received (in the past) any letters from them.

Did I do something wrong in the timing of my letter? As I am also expecting a response just Like Guest is

the collection agency doesn't have any time limit to respond to a DV but the law requires that they stop all collection activity. this includes reporting to the CRA. So this is a good time for a MOV. send your CMRRr green card and ask why they are still reporting something when the CA won't respond to you?
