How is a debt validated?

Excuse me if this has been previously discussed but, what are the legally accepted ways a debt can be validated?

Phil, One of the ways it i done is through a copy of the original contract. If a company is asking you to pay a balance (debt collector) you need to be sure you asked for debt validation through certified mail. The links Carol provieded you with should answer your questions. Hope we have helped.

Hopefully these links will help me, too...LOL I'm sure they will. ANYONE can state you owe them money. Certified Mail is a good idea....THIS way you have paperwork to prove what you have done.
