Hello,
Over 30 days ago I sent a debt validation letter to Unifund using the letter from credit magic. I sent it certified return receipt. I got the green signature card from the post office confirming delivery. So far I have gotten nothing in the mail from Unifund. What is my next step to get this debt removed?

Thanks,
Erik

I answered this in the other post. Don't forget to go to annual credit report dot com and get your credit reports

Hi Erik,

It s not a rule that the collection agency will have to answer back to your debt validation request within a 30 day time limit. You can wait for another two three weeks, and send a follow up debt validation letter mentioning that you had sent one previously to which they had failed to answer.

Wait for a month or two, and then dispute the item with the credit bureaus, if they fail to validate your debt. Send all the letters through certified mail, requesting a return receipt.

Thanks,

Aaron

Thanks Aaron,

Is it in my best interest to give Unifund more time? I have heard a ton of bad things about them forging summons delivery paperwork and getting default judgements. I don't like the idea of waiting unless it betters my chances of removing this debt from my credit report.

Hi Erik,

As there is no such rule that the collection agency will have to validate debt within 30 days of the validation letter sent by the debtor, it is better to wait for a few more days, and then send a follow up letter. Then if they fail to validate, you can dispute the item off your report.

Thanks,

Aaron

I would send a MOV letter now with your green card from the first DV. the CA can't report this on your credit if you can't verify this independently.
