Fisrt off great job every one with the help.I am disputing 1 account from CMI $112. First I have done a debt validation letter it came back with a semi attached bill only showing two fees to make up the full price of $112 no proof from what company which I know is Brighthouse. To me the validation letter was not enough proof so I went on to send them a pay for delete offer 1.to pay 50% to settle for delete or 2. make 3 payments of $37 till it paid in full for deletion. My response was the will not accept either only payment in full and can not delete the account from my credit report. So are you not one of my offers accepted and even if I paid in full I still can not get a delete only the status of paid in full.So what other options do I have?? Did I mention in doing all this the accont does not belong to me AT ALL not even my name even telling and trying to prove this to them this company CMI/credit management Inc the first names match but last names on the accounts are different. What is my next step with this company I have read many bad dealing with them from other people ................Thanks for letting me rant

Hi Flaebony,

If the debt was not incurred by you, you are not supposed to pay the money. You had send a debt validation letter to the company, and they did not send you a proper validation. After this, you should have tried to dispute the debt with the credit bureaus. You shouldn't have send a "Pay for delete letter" to the company. This means you owe the debt.

Thanks,

Aaron

Hello flaebony,

As the debt is not in your name, and because the company did not validate the debt properly, you shouldn't have made the payments. You made a mistake too in sending them a "Pay for delete" letter. In your case, you should have sent them a validation letter through certified mail, requesting a return receipt. As you don't owe the debt, they wouldn't have been able to provide you with the proper validation. After that you should have disputed this item with the credit bureaus.

Thanks.

Hi,

You have made a mistake in sending the PFD letter. If you had not, you could have disputed this debt. Now, you can try to pay off the money. It is better to pay off the full amount rather than paying this monthly. However, you could have waited till they approved your PFD agreement.

I wish that you get out of this problem soon.

Thanks,

Aaron

I know what I would do if this debt was not mine. I would contact my atty general and explain the whole situation. Offer him or her proof and if you know others who are billed for services that were not theirs let the atty general know. Have you tried to dispute this with the credit bureaus? How about sending proof to the collection company certified mail? If you pay this account and it is not yours more than likely you will then own the negative mark that will appear on your credit report for the next seven years. Paying this debt has a lot of consequences if not yours.

They did not even accept the PFD. I got a letter stating their policy does not do PFD.I have not gone to an attorney General. I do agree that paying this debt will remain on my credit report with the negative listing remaining after the fact. This is why I wanted advice. I wasn't sure if I should mail proof of my identity as I have read on other boards stating to give less info about yourself unless necessary.I had this similar problem with Verizon there was two accounts on my report and you would not believe the hell I went through to prove to them faxing over every thing except my child.Even after faxing over my lease, passport copy,SS card, utility bill even my child's birth certificate to show my name on there who was not the person with the debt. They still wanted me to go down to the social security office and get a verification letter which I spent two days trying to get. They did not even want to give the letter to me telling me that they do not provide verification letters and I had to speak to a manager and convince him just to prove to Verizon Wireless this debt was not mine.As of 3/15/10 faxing that final letter they closed the accounts only one of them has been deleted so far but one till remains. Will be calling tomorrow and did request a letter to be sent out for my proof if anything was to come back. The hell people go through

Goodluck hopefuly you can get the crap all straightened out, hopefully they will take the evidence to clear it all up. It amazes me how they can just report false information and you have to take hours to clear it up.

Have you filed disputes with the credit reporting agencies so that they have to prove their claim, if not you should.
