WAMU Debt, But WAMU No Longer Exists?

I have an overdraft debt of roughly $1000 from a WAMU checking account that was closed in 2008. WAMU no longer exists, but a CA is listing the debt on my credit report. The CA refuses to do a PFD.

Does anybody know how to get this off of my report?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Gopher,

As Washington Mutual no longer exists, There is no way you can ask them to pull back the account from the collection agency. Thus, you need to deal with the collection agency itself. If they don't agree to the "Pay for delete" agreement(PFD), you can request them to change the status of the listing to "Paid as agreed". This will raise your score by some points at least.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Aaron

I actually had this happen to me. I never knew when I switched banks that I owed a very small amount (less than $10). When I closed the account they said everything was good. A few years later I was trying to pay at wal mart by check and they would not accept it. I called the number they printed for me to get it straightened out but whoever the place was could not find anything on file. Still to this day I never figured it out.

Chase took over WAMU. Chase is a national bank and supervised by the OCC. write a DV letter to CA

I had some problems with my WAMU, and I had to struggle with them a bit to close the account.

when did you default on this and what state do you live in?

Thanks for the responses. Cinn, I was living in Nevada at the time, but live in Mississippi now. The default occurred in 2007 or 2008.

Didn't chase aquire quite a few older credit card businesses? I believe they also bought out Providian and I had a problem with that. I had a debt that was past the statue of limitations and somehow Chase bought the debt and relisted the date as of when they aquired the account, therefore, making it look like it was not past SOL. A little later a debt junkie bought it and tried to collect. It took a lot of digging and internet searching to find out what happened but it was a big headache.
