Hi, what is a letter of deletion and can it be used to remove a negative item on your credit report?

Pretty new to this, but from reading other posts, I believe you can offer the collection agency payment in exchange for deleting the debt from your credit report. You don't have to offer full payment; you can make an offer - until you pay, you actually have the upper hand. Again, take everything I type with a grain of salt... good luck!

Hi Ross,

I'm with renee on this I have read the same thing just make sure you send it certified so you will have proof they got it and proof of the agreement. If they agree it depends on the collection agency.

Hi Ross,

Yes, a letter of deletion is basically used to get a negative item removed from one’s credit report. It is actually known as 'pay for delete' letter which is sent to the creditor or collection agency requesting them to remove the negative remark from your credit report against the debt amount you are paying. Here you can find a sample of the letter: http://www.creditmagic.org/repair/pay-for-delete.html
