Subject: CRA verified debt "not mine" - what can I do?

I moved to NJ from CA last year around September. But recently I checked my credit report and there are these lengthy electricity bills from my old apartment. All of them due. I sent a dispute to credit reporting agency. A few days back I called to ask if they had received my dispute letter and they said the debt had been verified as mine. What can I do now? Shall I try to settle the amount?

Hi Harry,

I don't think you should pay for debts that are not yours. If you can get any written proof of the fact that you vacated the house in September (mention the exact date), then you can redispute with the credit bureaus. Maybe your previous landlord can provide you with this document. You must enclose the document that I have mentioned, along with your "Dispute Letter".

Good luck to you. Keep me informed.
