Subject: I recieved a summons, what do I do now?

I received a summons from a credit corp's attorney and I am not sure how to proceed. I don't deny I owe the money, but the fees they have tacked on are more than what I owe. I tried to make payment arrangements with the creditor before this happened and they denied me payments. They said I had to pay in full with in 15 days or their attorney would proceed. I couldn't pay the full amount in that amount of time. This is something I would love to be considered by the judge but I am not sure what to do. I don't have money for an attorney of my own, any advise on something I could do myself? Thanks in advance.

Your first step should be to file a response to the summons. If you do not appear in court, your creditor may bring a default judgment against you. He may also get a court order to garnish your wages or bank account.

But in court, you will get an opportunity to explain your situation to the judge. You can once again request for a payment plan. If you are able to convince the judge that you are willing to pay, in spite of the financial crisis you are going through, the judgment may go in your favor.
