Subject: sneaky online payment default setting

| The sfnnb has a set option (default) on their online payment page that will automatically bill your account $10.00 unless you undo their default answer for same day payment. I was caught by this tactic! I didn't notice the "same day" setting until I was billed for it. I will definitely be more careful in the furture...like ...I've cancelled my account with Express...they need me more than I need them! |

| How do I get these idiots to stop calling me? I don't have any accounts with them, or anything. They are calling me 7 days a week, 3 and 4 times a day, even at 8:30 on weekends. They never leave a message. Short of having my # changed, what can I do??? |

| Hi Janice. By any chance do you have a discover card? If so then a new bank took over their accounts. I had them calling here non stop with some kind of promotional offer. I called back the number and there was an option to have your number taken from their list. Choose the option they give you and follow through. It says it can take up to thirty days but the calls stopped here with in a couple days. They were coming in two and three times a day at all different hours. It was annoying. |

| I have not had an active Spiegel charge card for many years! It was paid off close to 10 years ago - when an outstanding balance continued to be shown on credit bureau reporting, I called and could not get the issue resolved - I wrote ALL credit bureaus at least 5 years ago. This balance continues to be reported by credit bureaus - HELP - Spiegel itself cannot help & gives me the # for WFNNB - cannot get past any menu options, the # shown on the net is continually busy and their web site is down - surely there is a way to speak with a supervisor!!!!! |

| I just recently applied for an avenue card...it was denied of course but they sent me something about being eligible for a fee based credit card. Does anyone know what that means? |

| I have made several attempts to clear up an outstanding f/c balance & the automated syst sucks....I have spoke to the same person 3 times & before I can get a resolution-the phone just goes to a very loud busy signal ! And of course, they do not call you back eventhough they have ALL your #'s! Very frustrated at this point....ready to turn them into the BBB or someone. Any suggestions? |

Hi Shalston:
As far as I understand, fee based credit cards are the ones that have an annual fee over them. However, it is better to avoid fee based credit cards. With a fee based credit card, one easily falls into heavy debt.
Madin:
I think rather than trying to contact them by phone, you should send a validation letter to them through certified mail and return receipt. With a certified mail, you will be able to know if they really received the letter. Moreover, if they don't send an answer letter, you can use the mail as a proof to dispute the debt.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Aaron. _________________ Keep in touch |

Hi Deeann,
Canceling an account affects credit score. However, before canceling an account, you can pay off the credit card in full. This will result into a zero balance in your account. After this, you can inform the bank or the issuer that you are closing the account. If you have zero balance in your account, it won't affect your score that much.
Moreover, closing an account lowers the score, because, the payment history is lost. Payment history plays the most important part in development of the credit score. If you close an account, the credit limit lowers too, while the usage of credit goes up.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Aaron. _________________ Keep in touch |
