We have over $10,000 in credit card debt due to my having cancer a couple of years ago. I had to quit work because of treatments and my husband is retired. We both get social security and are attempting to pay our bills but they amount to more than we bring in. What is our best option?

I just received a summons for a credit card. I live off of my VA pension and my SSI. I've read that they can't garnish my pension but can they take away my vehicle which is in my name to pay off the debt? The car is fully paid off and really the only thing we own outright. My other question is my wife's checks also go into the same account. Do I need to have her set up a different account to make sure that her money isn't touched since it's a joint account and once it's in the account it can be considered mine as well?

I am on social security disability. I owe approximately 15 to 20,000 in credit card debt. I own only on vehicle, a 2007 Chrysler 300. Can the creditor seize any of this? Do I need to go to the hearing, which is March 5, 2013. I dont dispute the debt, I just am unable to pay it. I am barely getting by. I am afraid to go to the hearing, because I dont know what to expect.

Is there a form that I can notify financial institutions that my deposits are from pension and SS income? Also can a creditor take my car if they do not hold the lien?

When did you accrue this debt - before marriage or after marriage? Your social security income and pension can't be garnished.

I'm divorced living on my half of ex civil service and military retirement and alimony. I paid ex money to pay state taxes for Utah which we were required to file jointly. He stopped paying the 4400.00 state tax bill for Utah and state wants me to pay or garnish my accounts and assets. I have no assets and only money going into bank acounts came from the retirements. Can they take this from me?

If you have only social security and retirement income going into your
bank account, can those wages be garnished to satisfy a small claims
judgement of $7600??
Marilyn (so sorry)

I receive social security and a pension, I was working but got layed off. They are not going to call me back. I am 67 years old. I now cannot make my 2 credit card payments. What can they do to me. I rent, have a older car, and just trying to keep a roof over my head.

I am only collecting ss,i have it sent to the bank, a levy was put on and removed, they say i didn't file for 1205&6 i did but i don't have those papers i've looked everywhere. What am i going to do, they wait until now, i received no threats and i know i don't owe them anything, because i sent in proof of medical and gas billls from working in Wallingford, i also sent in a form where 10,000 in 05 was non taxable because i moved to wallingford to keep my job, this is awful. The # rep told me to prove it or pay it isn't their problem they just collect. Please help
