Subject: Can the CA garnish my fathers SSDI benefits?

I knee deep in debt and know that I can be sued any time by the collection agency. I know that they can freeze my bank accounts. But can they garnish my father’s bank account. The only money deposited in his account is the SSDI checks. But I have my name in is account because he is disabled and I handle all the financial issues.

Hi khik,

As far as I know, the collection agency cannot garnish SSDI benefits to pay off consumer debts. But to avoid any confusion, you can have your name removed from the account. It will be inconvenient for a while, but save you of the mental stress. You can also direct the SSDI checks to an individual account in your father's name.
