Definately the best advice here. You can not relize just how exasperating it is to dodge collectors or the worst part when they first resell the debt to a new agency and they hound you and family members for months.

GOODNATURED.....I'm gonna go back to your comment. " pay back what you owe." I've already done that. However, the CA is telling that I have to "legally pay back all of the fees, too." I just don't think i will.

SD I am pretty sure you will have to pay back the fees. GN isn't on here alot much so maybe you should leave her a PM so she can answer this question.

I wouldn't and you know what if they are not cooperative they will just sell it off to another and hopefully they will be more cooperative. you know how it works sd, just give it some time. How old is the debt?

Well I would attempt the debt validation to see if they are legally able to collect it.

Hi Chargers
You need to pay back the entire outstanding debt including their fees because the fees also constitute a part of the debt. However, before paying off the debt if you can negotiate with the collection agency for a discount on the outstanding debt, you can avoid the fees. Most of the CAs may settle for 60 to 80% of the outstanding debt. But this negotiation should be done before you start paying them off. You should check you credit report for the outstanding amount of the debt, they have mentioned there.
