I have a judgement on my credit. I fully intend on paying it off, but I can't right now. I need to move into a new apartment and nobody will rent to me. Is there anything I can do?

It is very difficult to get a rented accommodation as everybody will be hesitant to rent a person who has a judgement against him. It is better that you take a professional advice in this case. Since you have a debt in another apartment, your wage may be garnished. So it is better first to pay it off by coming to an agreement for a repayment plan.
As you have already a judgment against you, it is very difficult to find a decent place to get rent. but if your judgment is paid, then you may be considered for a rent.

You might find that you would have an easier time renting to an individual renting out a part of a two family home etc. I say this b/c most large companys have policys that are kind of written in stone. While your adverage couple renting out spare room might be more inclined to take a chance on you. Also, if I were you i would send a petition to the court outlining a payment arrangement for you. That way you can send in 30 dollars or so a week and it will show that you are not defaulting on your obligation.

I rent an apt now. Lived here for 8 years. The Landlord (who happens to be the Housing Authority for this area..) checked my credit. What she said she was looking for was "outstanding utility bills" on my CR. And..according to them ( Housing Authority) that's ALL they can look at. Is this 'procedure' different in other states? I DO know someone who had a 'default' and a 'judgement' on their CR. She STILL got a apt rented. I live in the state of PA.

Well..I think it depends on the agency/landlord you rent from. They both have a right to do a background check on you. Have you called around, in the area where you live, looked in the newspaper, etc.?
