I have a judgment filed in 2006 how long does it stay on I was not living where it is from at the time and was unaware of it or I would have replied to it as I was living in Ca and it is from Mass What can I do about it now? As not sure if I pay it it will stay longer on credit or can I get it reduced now as it's $2100.

Judgments stay in your credit report for seven years from the date the creditor brings judgment against you. The Statute of Limitation on judgment is 10 years in California and so the creditor can either garnish your wage or your bank account within this period to recover the same. I think that if you have the money to pay it off, contact the creditor or the collection agency who owns your debt and repay it back.

The judgment will stay in your credit report for seven years from the date it has been passed. However, as Justin said, since the SOL on judgment in CA is 10 years, the creditor can recover the debt anytime within this 10 year period. If the judgment amount is 2100$, and you can afford to pay, then pay it off to avoid wage garnishment. You can also contact the creditor and negotiate for a repayment plan to pay it off.
