Subject: continual garnishment interest

| I had a judgment against me in colorado. Including interest and court cost amounted to $6500. Garnishment began. The judgment had a time restraint of 13 months. ( I have no idea why) After 13 months, garnishment ceased leaving a balance of $2500. A few months grace period, garnishment began again for $2500 plus an additional $1500 in interest. Now that it's almost paid, I received a notice that they have now added an additional $1500 in interest which will begin after the other is finished. Can they do this? Should I contact a lawyer? What are my options? I was paying every month to the collector and they took me to court anyway. Obviously it's wrong to assume they can't accept payment and take you to court! I was paying $100 a month. Not like I was only paying a minimum amount. Thanks for your help! |

Hi cindy,
This seems to be a complicated situation. Maybe you should get help from an attorney. Personally I haven't come across cases where garnishment stops and then resumes again with added interests. Immediately seek professional help. _________________ Keep in touch

Hi Cindy,
I agree with Carol, that you should immediately seek a professional help. This is a complex situation. I don't think that the creditor can do this. Garnishment is done to pay off the debt and not to add up interests to it so that it becomes a burden. Contact a lawyer without wasting any time. _________________ All the Best

Hi Cindy,
Yes, look under consumer lawyers. You can consult a consumer protection lawyer or consumer fraud lawyer. _________________ All the Best

Hi,
No, by that phrase, I meant that the concerned person should look for consumer lawyers to handle the case. I have also specifically mentioned two types of lawyers the person can consult for the respective case. _________________ All the Best
