Ok, thank you for your input, I think that the 401K has a pretty good reputation and modern benifits.

I am trying to figure out wether to buy back five years military time into my retirement. They want like 27 thousand for it, seems steep, but it will really jack up my retirement, I still have a few years, like 20 to go before I retire, so I am really thinking about it. I can make monthly payments on it so it would not hurt too much. or I can put it off till the end and it will really cost me double, not sure what to do yet. I know I want to purchase it, just not sure on the way to pay. I don't have 27 thousand to give them so that is not even an option.

Honestly, I think it would be a good idea for everyone to learn about retirement planning. I know when my boyfriend and I retire, we plan to sell our real estate portfolio that we are acquiring to live on as our retirement money. At the same time though, he has a "can't stop working" OCD habit. lol So, he will probably be working until he physically is unable to do so. I personally want to look into more options for retirement planning besides selling our real estate portfolio we will acquire over the years to come. I don't know much about retirement planning. Any advice!?
