How to stop harassing CA phone calls?

Submitted by fireyone on Wed, 03/19/2008 - 00:53

I already recieve collection calls of my own and now since I moved and got another persons phone number how do I get their CA to quit calling? I usaully let the answering service pick up calls I do not recognize and lately there have been sooo many. these calls are from CA for another person. I have returned their calls when they leave their number and tell them this is no longer so and so's number but that doeasn't work.

Mail a letter (return receipt) to the CA demanding that they stop calling your number; if possible, include in your letter the name of the debtor that they are trying to reach.

You can place a complaint with the Consumer Affairs department. That works effectively.

Well got a call from a different one this morning. Again left the machine pick it up. I called back the number they left and HOPEFULLY they removed my number as promised. Usually a wait and see thing. As for the others when I call them back and ask for their company name or any info they hang up and I can't get it. They still will keep calling. They just wait a couple weeks. This is why I resorted to letting the machine screen the calls. At least they usually leave their name. Most do not. They usually just say this call is for so and so please call back at 333-333-3333. I tried to look up the phone numbers online but haven't much luck. here are the last couple calls 800-899-4353 and 678-461-5952. Anyone recognize them?

Perhaps...

  • Different call center

Call originated from different phone banks

If one number doesn't work, try using a different one (how many of us really know someone else at a toll free number?)

Outbound number was keyed up to collect a different batch of accounts, but was never changed back to the number coresponding with the account at your phone number

Something else I may have forgotten/not even aware of???

they have different ways of contacting you, usually these types of calls are on an auto dailer, hate those things they do NOT quit. You may want to contact the attorney generals office in your state if the calls do not quit. goodluck, hope you get this straightened out soon, I know how annoying it can be when the calls are for someone who lives in the house, let alone someone who does not live there.

Very true good natured. It was nonstop when I first got this number. I mean from the time they turned it on it rang over and over from these people. I really feel the phone company should have given me a new number but they would not. There has to be a million debt collectors for this person and I am not joking!!! I really wouldn't want to be in there shoes. Of course there could be a logical explanation for it since we all know life doesn't always go the way we need or want it to. I just get a little cranky because of the number of calls and the time of calls.
That is a cool website morningstar. I will have to bookmark it.
