Debt Consolidation companies and Credit Repair companies are totaly different.I see clients time and time again that come out of Debt Consol that have worse credit then before all the settlements and negotiations. Credit Repair works if done right.
Disputes in general take forever because they try to blow you off, anyone can do disputes, and most quick fix companies do that. Most people are looking for the best results, however they left the price get in the way. I would look at the laws and find a company that uses those to the best of the knowlege for you. I would question anyone who gives you a the same set rate no matter the negatives on your reports, I would also make sure whom you are dealing with is licensed, bonded and a member of the bbb. Anyone can do disputes on their own, however time is something we just do not have enough of would y'all agree? _________________ "Let me help ya, "lasso" those bad issues"

Here are some questions that you should consider when choosing a credit repair company:
1) Will they review your credit reports for free, BEFORE you sign up with them?
2) Do they ONLY send dispute letters to the credit bureaus, or will they validate the debt directly with creditor or collections agencies and dispute public records with courthouses if necessary?
3) Do they have a physical location or is it a home based business?
4) Do you have to fill out your own disputes?
5) How long does their credit restoration process take?
6) Is the company operating legally?
7) Is the company bonded?
Is the company registered with the state?
How many clients have they helped over the years?

Ok....CODY.........Credit Repair does......exactly what? Not trying to sound ignorant here.....just trying to figure all of this out. Debt Settlement, Credit Repair, etc. Are 'we' getting scammed? What 'price' are we paying for 'those' who are claiming to be "the best?" I don't want to sign up with a 'company' and pay them to destroy my credit even furthur.

according to the Readers Digest when talking on debt settlement companies they listed a few warning signals on what to look for.
1. Hefty of hidden fees-anyhting over $50 monthly
2. Someone who wants you to sign up for a service over the phone
3. Agentsd who work on commission based on the total debt they are able to collect. (if your not sure ask).
4. Anyone who tells you to stop paying your collectors
5. A "counselor" who does not take genuine interest in ensuring you are educated about your financial options.
This and more can all be found in the January 2009 edition |

I have been seeing more and more articles in magazines like Time and Readers Digest. It maybe that after this economic downturn that more peoples eyes are being opened in AMerica. Lets hope this is what is happening because the more information that is put out there the more people will learn and maybe avoid financail disasters.

A little research goes a long way. As people get older they tend to not take things at face value..ie...credit cards, loans and such..They begin to relize the fine print was put there for a reason. Any time you think you are going to apply for any type of credit you should always do your research first.

What I think I decided to do.......after doing research on different kinds of CC's, loans, 'Lines of Credit', etc., i think I'll just leave my crefit alone. I mean, no....I don't have a 'Line of Credit' ( I know it was said, on a post or two, 'Lines of Credit' will imrove your credit) but, it lowers your score everytime you are 'checked out by the CC company, lender, etc. right now.............I have 'enough'. The nore I 'paydown' some debt/loan, the better my score will be.

Just in the interest of clarification, the "account review" inquiries, or those initiated by a company with which you ALREADY have an account have no impact on your credit. Only new ones "hurt" your credit scores. Also, those inquiries can be merged with the account itself, once it is opened, and listed on the bureaus, thus limiting any adverse impact. _________________ -Doc Compton, Omega Credit Repair

DOC...............you mean the 'NEW' inquiries, or do you mean 'NEW' accounts? FOR EXAMPLE: If you have a 'new' account ( let's say a CC) and you've only had it a few months, if you are 'current' on your payments, will this STILL impact your Credit score, because it IS a 'newbie'? Hope you understand my question.
