Huge fires in California........family was evacuated

Submitted by sdchargers_63 on Tue, 10/23/2007 - 21:53

As most of you know, San Diego, CA, have uncontrollable fires!! My parents, sisters, etc. were evacuated two days ago. I've been watching the news..how horrible a sight, with all of this burning!! I talked to my parents today. They told me that their house is STILL there...wasn't touched by the fire!! Neither was my sister's house!! What a miracle!!

God is so merciful. Yes it is a miracle that your family is intact.

sdchargers, hope all is well with your family, I will keep them in my thoughts and prayers. Hopefully they will get everything under control soon. Hang in there and try not to get stressed out, I know it is hard when it is your family, thank god they are ok and their homes are ok too. Let's pray that it remains ok. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Great, no problem, everything will be fine. I feel for the families that have lost their homes. I am not real familiar with the area or how these wild fires get started but I do see them on the news like yearly. can you shed some light?

Goodnatured..........well, depending on how 'dry' it is in California. The brush can be so dry and it can be SOO hot, that fires will start. But..if the Santa Ana winds ( usually coming from the Los Angeles area) are very 'stormy' or 'wound-up', this can cause fires to go out of control. That's what happen to ALOT of fires this past time. Also...it said on the news, some of the fires were statred and went out of control, as well.

Does it happen often? I think it would be hard to get fire insurance in some areas out there, do they give them a hard time about it. I know there are areas around here that you can not get flood insurance, it is crazy.

That is a good question, is it hard to get fire insurance in those areas, sound like an insurance forum issue. sdchargers, where do you live? you are not near where the fires are happening right? but you have family there right?

It is really a pain to see people in such a difficult situation.

Nature can be a powerful force sometimes, I am not sure that I would stay in the area IF this is a constant threat. Can't imagine being around all that fire is safe to breathe either.

sdchargers, I am happy that your family is safe.

Actually, In MOST areas of California, you can't buy a house WITHOUT buying Earthquake or Fire insurance. I was born and raised in CA.....we had earthquakes ALOT! Never really bothered me, though. Was kind of use to them..LOL

SD first of all i'm so very happy to hear that your family is ok after the massive loss through those fires. it is truly a miracle. secondly I saw where people with money would fireproof their home by spraying some sort of agent on them (or having someone do it) and of course they have to have fire insurance. very interesting. Earthquakes, wow...can't imagine!

Sometimes things sound really adventurous. However they cost so many lives that the sense or feeling of happiness just evaporates.

I'm very close to my family!! I've talked to my parents, sisters, etc, everyday!! My dad was telling me how "amazing it is how people are helping the victims of this tragedy ( donations,etc.). My dad was saying everyone is just 'coming together' to 'do their part'.

Thats called people power I guess. Atleast somewhere in the mind I find that satisfaction that humans are still humans who feel and help people out.

People generally will jump in and help. Just like these forums, people helping people.

I think I will stay here in Western Pennsylvania, where my main concern comes once a year, wintertime and the driving conditions, lol.

sdchargers, I am not up to earthquakes and wildfires, but the only exposure I have had is media, like the movie industry had a few really scary ones out there about both.

it is such a shame these fires happen. those people more and likely lose more than their homes there are just some things that are un replacable like photo and sentamental gifts, and thing from loss loved ones. but one thing they should be thankful they were able to leave and still have their health. there are some that just are not as lucky.like I said it is sad to see it happen to the famalies. I will keep them in my prayers
