New Year Resolutions

Submitted by Laura on Fri, 12/28/2007 - 09:56

What are you thinking of doing this year? Any resolutions different from this year?

1) I have decided to go completely frugal...limited dinner out, less of random shopping. :)
2) Will make more posts on creditmagic :)
3) Will make sure that my mother's finance is going well (she has become lousy with old age ;))

What about you guys?

think I posted my answer in the wrong thread, but I will put just a portion here.

1. My goal is to eliminate all my small debt, by small debt, anything under $1500.
2. I will evaluate my progress every three months
3. I will anotate my progress and shift financial resources that could be better used some where else.
4. Try to keep all forum monies in paypal for christmas shopping.
5. Changing my christmas holiday to December 27th, so I can shop cheaper, for real.
6. will make more posts on creditmagic and insurance forums.

Added to my previous points is the following

* My new year resolution is to get the only black patch off my report. This reduced my score by 50. OMG!!

Sat, 12/29/2007 - 05:39 Permalink

That would be awesome Laura, hope you accomplish it. When will it fall off or what steps will you have to take to get it off?

That is a realistic goal Laura if you only have one black mark on your credit, I wish you all the success in the world with that. I have not look at my credit report in a long time, I am aware that there is a site out there that offers a free copy. We had someone come in from a counselling agency and talk to our entire staff and a few clients. It was very informational. She talked about how different things affect your credit, mainly focusing on raising your score and what inquiries have to do with your credit. You can find all this information on the web, it is all their at your finger tips these days.

My goals for the year is to try and relieve some stress, I have had enough for six people, time for me to take some time out for myself and try to get more exercise, take better care of myself, physically and mentally. We shall see, one day at a time works for me.

Goodluck with your goals, hope you accomplish all you want to this year.

That is a really good goal for you. You definately need the stress relief, and while you are at it, don't take on anymore. You are like a stress magnet, LOL. Really, let some people handle their own problems and then the next time around it will be much easier on them, if they learn from the first time around. Hope you have a better year this year, you deserve a break. goodluck

1: Pay off all of my and partners credit cards.
2: Re-establish (restart) a 3-6 month emergency fund for rainy day.
3: Upgrade the kitchen and finish the garage off.
4: Continue to try to do the right thing.....FIRST!!! LOL..

Thanks a lot guys. It is a realistic Lunchtime...and welcome to the forum. Hope to see you very often.

Sun seeing you after a long time. Great resolutions...hope you can accomplish all of them.

Rainy day fund, that is a good one, I would like to start a snowy day fund, my utility bills get a little out of hand in the winter. So this summer I would like to winterize my house so that my bills come down next winter and maybe then I can have a snowy day fund.

Good morning and happy new year to erb, Laura, Sun, Good and anyone else that is not in this thread! Hope you are all up and refreshed from the nights celebration and ready to start the new year with your goals in mind.

Even though this thread did not get much attention prior to the new year at least the people that did post here set realistic and obtainable goals. I challenge each of us to support each other this year in adhering to our goals and staying focused on what we want to accomplish, just by simply asking, "how is this going and how is that going?"

1) I have decided to go completely frugal...limited dinner out, less of random shopping.
2) Will make more posts on creditmagic

Laura, I believe that you will do what you set your mind to do, you seem like you are a very organized and disciplined lady. Sticking to your frugal goal will allow you the extra money that will add up quickly so you can start saving for something that you have always wanted or set aside for a future long term goal.
We love to read your posts here, so I really hope you stick to goal 2, you are a great member in this forum. Even though I am quite new, I recognized that very quickly.

Good,

1. My goal is to eliminate all my small debt, by small debt, anything under $1500.
2. I will evaluate my progress every three months

Stick to your goals, I think since goal one and two are tied together, you will do fine, don't get dissapointed if you slip, just continue on and the next three months may be the one that will help you accomplish your main goals.

Sun,

1: Pay off all of my and partners credit cards.
2: Re-establish (restart) a 3-6 month emergency fund for rainy day.

This may take a little discipline and support too, we are here for you, please keep this thread updated on your progress. How many cards do you have? Do you have a defined starting point? How long do you think it will take you? Be realistic when evaluating these goals, will you get rid of the cards once they are paid off?

erb

I would like to winterize my house so that my bills come down next winter and maybe then I can have a snowy day fund.

You could start by purchasing some of the items at the end of the winter season, did you get gift cards for christmas? Wait till the sales and purchase your insulation, heavy lined curtains, and other items like this while the stores want them off their shelves.
A few other things you could do is to let your family and friends know that your have this goal, so instead of the retail gift that you may not use they could purchase you some item or gift card that would help you purchase these items.
Also wanted to mention that most utility companies have budget plans where you can pay one set price or close to it each month, they take an estimate of your yearly use and break it down into monthly payments, this may be more affordable for you, instead of purchasing when the prices are higher for heating oil or what ever type of heat you use. You may want to call and ask your utility company about this. They can provide you with a list of cost saving tips also. There are many options for you.

And for me, I am going to start the new year, sick, out of my control, but manageable, I am going to live more stress free this year. Laugh a little more, complain a little less and try to be a happier person.

I understand where you are coming from in regards to being sick... We have a sick house hold here in AZ as well. Hang in there, this too shall pass. Have your tried Airbourne? May help out a little..

Anyway, living more stressfree, laugh a little more and complain a little less is most certainly a good receipe for a successful year!!! I am going to implement that into my lifestyle...

I wish you all the happiness, healthyness and properous New Year!!!

It is great to hear such nice words. I am boasting may be but yes i am disciplined and that has to be because I have a younger sister behind me, who learns from me. It is really very encouraging to interact with all of you here. So much support at the same time.

Laura, everything Lunchtime said about you is so true, you come across so disciplined and it is good that you recognize that someone very important to you is watching your every move, (your little sister), some day she will be so thankful that you have been such a good role model for her, you give her the guidance and support she needs to mature into a strong, independant and smart young lady, she has an angel on her side in a sister!!!!!!!!!!

We all could learn from you!

Thu, 01/03/2008 - 04:37 Permalink

They are right Laura, you do seem so sincere about your sister and have alot of self discipline. Your sister is lucky to have you as a role model.

I was in walmart the other day, the winter stuff is not on sale yet, guess people are still doing some winterizing, I did buy plastic for my windows, that stuff is always cheap, figured it may save me a few dollars on the gas bill.

i am makeing a will which ive been talking about for a few years.

Mon, 01/07/2008 - 20:52 Permalink

It is not at all selfish Da to take care of yourself. Take a look in a different way. We have to be well and good to take care of others. So are we not the most important people to be taken care of?

New Year's.
Let's start out with less violence and better health care. Oh wait I am not Mr. Bush ha ooops..........I suppose my own new years goals would be to improve my spending habits while increasing my income. Those two goals go hand in hand. I would also like to be a better mother to my dogs they are like children to me but I am never home so maybe I can take an alotted time out of each day just to play fetch. Another goal would be to meditate and exercise more. The mind and body are my ultimate concern always.

It makes a world of difference when you have older siblings to look up to when it comes to a lot of things. A parent who is good to look up to is great also but they are what they are, a parent, and have that role as the parent. A sibling is more comfortable because they are closer to age and just more aware of whats going on in your own generation. I love to see you are a great big sister, I am lucky too as a younger siblng to have my elders to look up to:)
