Organ donation
Are you an organ donor, I see more and more commercials on television, they are really pushing this program. I always feared if some one important needed an organ and I was a match that they would off me, LOL, seriously, I thought that for years, probably from hearing people say it, LOL. How would they even know that you were a match, they don’t test you as soon as you sign the form. Really don’t know what I was thinking all that time. I myself am not a donor, just had my license renewed and did not do it, but have been thinking about changing my mind.

Has anyone considered this and why?

I have always been a little leary of it too, I guess with all the commercials though I am feeling more comfortable with it, the more you know, the easier it is to make a decision, fear and ignorance makes the decision harder.

I have always heard that if you have a match like you said then they would not give you all the they had to keep ya here. When I first got my license I put myself as an organ donor then when I renewed them I took it off however, I just let my family know of my wished to donate any salvagable orgons if that time ever presented itself. I think that is the safest bet!

I do believe in organ donation, I think it is fairly safe to say that it is regulated enough that no one is going to hunt you down for your tissue, lol, you guys crack me up. If you think about it, it is so amazing, how they can take an organ from a deceased person, put it in a cooler and ship it off to a hospital where someone who got the call is prepping for surgery. One families lose is another families prayers answered. It is a good idea to talk to your kids or other family members about it now, while everyone is healthy and able to make the decision. Do your research, have the discussion. You can find lots of information online these days about organ donation.

You can donate a part of you while you are alive that will have a great impact on those waiting. Everyone knows about blood donation but there is so much more that you can do. You can donate just your plasma, you can donate your bone marrow, you can get away with donating part of your liver or one kidney. Bone marrow will replace itself just like your blood does. Before you decide to do any of this it is important to make sure that you are in good health, talk to the clinic that does the procedures and asked them what precautions you should take. Ask them if there is something you can do before hand that will make you recover sooner. Find out if it is an out patient procedure or will you be off for work awhile to recover.

If you are not into the full tissue donation, then just give blood, it is simple enough, the red cross does it every day. It will make you feel good that you were there in someone’s time of need.

I was told by a funeral director, of all people, that our eyes are outmatically donated. If thats true or not in all cases I don't know...

i have been an organ doner for years and i feel if im dead and my organscan save someone else than id be glad to give them the gift of life. im also a marrow doner . i signed up when we had a little girl here dying from lukiemia and needed bone marrow to live. i wasnt a match but i never removed my name from the list. i think this is the greatest gift you could offer anyone even if they never get to know you. people die every day because they needed a body part that was not availible. and people die and are buried with perfect body parts. why? please consider it what if it was one of your family members? dont wait until its to late.
