Hello,

I don't have the money to pay for an Attorney, and want to file Chapter 7.
I have a summons to Court from collection company, and just sent a debt validation letter to them.
I have another collection company calling me.

Does anyone know how I will go about filing Bankruptcy in CA, without an attorney? Do I go to the Courthouse near me?

Please help......

Thank you,

Lauralyn , I am not totally sure but I do not think you can do this. Your state may have places that offer these services for free. Have you check. Around here we have a place where lawyers offer low income people their services for no fee. I would not advise trying to do this yourself. The rules of bankruptcy have changes a lot over the past few years. You would not be able to keep up with all the changes. I also believe you have to go through credit counseling before they will even consider a bankruptcy now. also it is determined by the courts if you would even qualify. try finding out if anyone in your area offers free services. you could also check out your state web site and see if there os anything listed there.

Thank you so much. I have been talking to Lawyers, and companies that prepare all the information for you for less. I just have to respond within 30 days, because of the summons and it has been a week and a day.
I am just googleing and talking to people. Just being positive that I will have a solution........
Take care,
