I recently went back and forth with a collection firm to set up a settlement for an account. They sent me a letter stating pay x amount and we will then mark the account paid and send a final settlement letter. I issued a payment certified funds with a letter stating settlement accepted please respond within 14 days with the final letter. Well weeks went by so I went to my bank to see what my options were. They had not cashed the check so I sent another letter to them with all copies of letters sent back and forth and with the check number of payment and who signed for the payment letter. They finally cashed the check 2 weeks ago and I have not heard from them at all. What should be my next step to deal with this agency and the credit bureaus?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give

Cinnamngrl,

I started receiving calls from a collection agency called Greystone Alliance LLc out of Buffalo Ny. I never answered the phone since I wont talk to collection agencies on the phone. I prefer to do everything in writing. They also pulled my credit report two times last friday and this past monday. I received a letter today from them stating they are collecting for Zenith Acquisitions Corp. They are trying to collect on the above account that I sent payment for. Since I have not heard from the agency who cashed my settlement payment and failed to send me any letters or anything or take it off my credit report. Please help me and what should I do. I have my dispute to the credit Bureaus done and ready to be sent out on monday, but since another agency is trying to collect the same account that I sent the payment on what should I do?

Thanks
