I am being sued by a credit union for a personal loan taken out in 2000 by my ex husband. I appear as co applicant however the signature is not mine. I can not afford an attorney and do not know how to file a written appearance personally. It looks as though the last payment on this loan was in 2007 and it was charged off in 2008. Please help!

If it isn't your signature then you don't have anything to be scared of. A handwriting analysis will prove it if you're indeed not a co-signor.
But what about the divorce decree? What if your divorce decree makes you responsible to pay off this loan!

Is it a bank/finance company that the loan is with? I'm just curious because you can always question the lender and get copies from them. Usually (not always, sadly) some lenders will know who signed what paperwork. If it was JUST your ex or both of you. I'm not saying you DID sign anything, but,..the lender would know. Usually with loans, lenders would need to look at CR's, etc. If there was a co-applicant involved, the lender would have to look at the CR's of BOTH applicant and co-signer..and have record of doing so. Hope this advice helps.

For Credit repair you to following these:
Pay all the debts outstanding.
Pay all the old debts too.
Repay loan amount with in limits
Apply for the credit validation.

Good advice, Barrentine!!
To repair your credit, start with your CR. If you have debts are there, check the SOL of the debts. If the 'fall-off' dates of the debts are going to be soon, then don't do anything with them. If the SOL, of the debt, is passed 4 years, then the CA (by law) cannot sue you.
