Midland Credit Management -- how to stop them from sending my debt to credit bureau?

Midland Credit Management has purchased my debt from another collection agency. It does not show up in their system yet. I am trying to find out how to stop them from sending it to the credit bureau.

Here are a few facts --

1. The debt pertains to my phone bill from 2006 from state of PA. The SOL in PA for contracts is 4 years. So the debt is past SOL. The prior collection agency has it on my credit report, but say will drop it within a week or so. The debt only shows up on Experience credit report and not on others.

2. Midland Credit Management does not have debt in their system yet.

I need to stop them from sending the debt to the bureaus.

While I am annoyed to have to deal with these smucks, I am okay with paying a bit to settle the debt even if it outside of SOL.

Does anyone know any advisor who can help me with this task?

It depends on their discretion whether or not Midland Credit Management will report it to the credit bureau. Usually negative items remain on your credit report for 7 years from the date of your first default. But you will be happy to know that Midland Credit Management can’t take any legal action against you since the SOL period has expired. You may consult with a financial counselor in this regard.
