I've been trying to remove late pays I have on an old account that I settled out. What is the best strategy to go about this?

Usually negative items remain on your credit report for 7 years from the date of your first default. You may make a written request to your creditors to remove those items from your credit report. But it depends on their discretion whether or not to accept your request.

very true. It's up to the creditor whether or not to take the debt off your CR. If they refuse to, at least, your debt will say 'PIF' (Paid In Full) and that does look better than NOT paid. Have you looked on your CR to see how old the debt is (if it IS on your CR). Do you know the SOL for the state in which you live? I'm asking because if the SOL is expired on the debt, then the creditor cannot legally sue you or legally try to ask for their money. Give me an 'update' on my questions, please..so I can possibly help you furthur. Thanks. :)
