I just recieved a copy of my equifax credit file. The first 2 items under Public Record Information are really the same issue. The first says Lien Filed 7/2004 Marion Recorder FED Leins and does NOT show it paid. The second shows it being paid 2 months later. They have the same Case or ID number. A real person should be able to tell they are the same, but does the credit scoring program? It was a local property tax bill in Indiana and every county was delayed 2 to 12 months by a reassement under a brand new system... I never got a bill or a late notice... other than the court summons...

Hi Drheaton,

I understand that the first item is completely disputed. Regarding the second item, were you actually late by 2 months. You sound not to be and your credit report is shown inaccurately.

Why not highlight these items and dispute with the CRA reporting it. Ask for their results of investigation. If they still continue to keep the item as it is, show your proof to an attorney who deals in lawsuits of FCRA violations.

He will prepare your defense and file a case against the CRA in the court. You may win this case with the help of your lawyer and be compensated up to the extent of the damages done to your credit.

If their system screwed up your bill, it probably screwed up a lot of other people's bills.

Have you contacted your Assessor or Tax Collector?
Are they elected officials?
Have your local papers reported on problems similar to yours?
