Subject: settled and siwtched

I setled an old credit card debt through Van Ru Credit Corporation. The amount of the debt was $3500.
We settled for appx. $2000. I paid it in 2 payments and received a letter verifying that "This arrangement is for settlement in full of the above referenced account."
I have now received a letter from another collection agency saying that I owe $1500 on that same account.
Is this a scam? A legal loophole? A mistake?Did I get fooled by Van Ru and then the remainder of the "settlement sold to someone else?

JP, send a dispute letter by certified mail with return receipt requested to the other CA attaching copy of the settlement letter you received from Van Ru Credit Corporation.

In case they sue you for non-payment of the debt then you will have evidence of the correspondence you have sent to them informing about the already settled debt and the court will give the judgment in your favor.
