I have a tax lien on my credit report. I satisfied this lien in 1999. It was still listed as UN PAID. I received a letter from the Department of revenue and have forward it to the court house and now I am in possesion of a letter to give to the 3 credit reporting companies "how do I go about having my credit report state it was paid in 1999". So that it comes off in 2009

Dispute with the each of the CRAs. They will verify the info with the data furnisher (probably a company named lexus nexus). If the data furnisher continues to provide erroneous information, then I would start looking to sue the data furnisher for FCRA violations.

Hi Padawan73

I think the credit reporting agencies didn’t update the information that you have satisfied the lien in 1999. What I feel is you should approach the three reporting bureaus with the proof that you have paid the lien in 1999. It's always better to send the latest information by a certified mail, with a return receipt.

You can also call up the agencies and talk to them on this issue.

Thanks

I got a IRS tax lien on my credit report in may 2003, (Which I was unaware) until the IRS began to garnish my wages in November 2003. Which I paid it in full. (1) I never received a notice of the lien. (2) I was Recalled to Active Duty in March 2003. (3) My employer did not allow garnishment until my return in October 2003. Now, is true that the credit reporting agencies will put a hold on credit reports if proof of active duty is given. Is there a way to retroactively appeal this?

You can place an active duty alert in your credit file to help prevent ID theft, it does not stop accurate information from appearing on your report. But, I am not sure if this provision existed yet in 2003.

When was your tax due?
When did you leave for active duty?

Does your credit report show the lien as satisified or unsatisfied?
