Hi All,

Shane here. My credit report shows wrong information of my address, job, even date of birth. My old and current addresses have been interchanged. The job mentioned is the one i left a year ago and i am working with a new firm. I am 26 years old but my date of birth shows 1964.

How to correct all this on the credit report?

Thanks
Shane

Hi Shane,

Welcome to Credit Magic.

You didn't mention the name of CRA!

However, write a letter to the CRA with detailed information on dispute and ask them to correct or delete that. They may take around 30 days to complete their investigation and auditing process.

In your letter,

1) Clearly identify the disputes and attach documents (copies and not the originals) to support your position.
2) Enclose a copy of the disputed report and highlight the disputed parts.
3) Properly mention your name and address.
4) Send your letter via registered post (this will involve a third party) and ask for a receipt copy.

It should solve your problem. :D

Hi Shane,

This is a format of a dispute letter. Hope this helps you.

Letter of dispute to CRA

Full Name
Current Address
Current Contact Number

Attn: Name of CRA
Address of CRA

Dear (Name of CRA)

This is a request for the removal of outdated information on my credit report. I have enclosed a copy of my report (Dated :……) that your organization provided me with. I have encircled the disputed items with red. The list is given below

Give the list of items and number them properly

According to the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Section 605 [15 U.S.C. § 1681 C] “Running of Reporting Period”, the length of reporting period is 7 – 10 years based on the kind of information. In my case, the information expired as of (give the date).

I would be obliged if you investigate the claim and if you find it valid I would expect you to remove the same from my credit report. Also I request you to send me the updated copy of my report to the address listed above.

Incase the investigation determines the information as correct I would like to have the full description of the procedure used to verify the validity of the items in question. As per the FCRA, I would be obliged if you forward the information within 15 days of completion of your re-investigation.

I appreciate your kind consideration and cooperation in resolving the matter. Incase of any discrepancy or further queries you can contact me at (Give Time when they can call you, your contact number with area code).
