On July 9 2007 I received a settlement offer from AFNI for a telephone bill that they claim I owe from 2001 On July 26 2007 I sent in a validation request and they signed for it on August 1 2007, Well today August 9 2007 I was checking my credit report and noticed that AFNI had posted a collection on my report. I was irate with this so I called AFNI and this is what I was told I did not dispute with them within the thirty days of receiving there notice in April and I can not be given the thirty days under a settlement offer to dispute I informed her that I did not receive anything in April but as soon as I got the settlement offer in July I immed. disputed. She said that it is not her fault that I do not get the mail and respond in a timely manner. And now that it is on my credit report it will stay there until July 2008. She said that she would send me a copy of the final bill on this account, I informed her that this is not good enough that I want actual proof that this bill is mine that you are claiming, I had already sent them proof showing that Verizon tried to collect on this bill and was verified that it was not mine since I never had an account with them. Then after this it went to a collection company called Collectech which I disputed again and it was removed now Three years later I seem to be dealing with a company that is impossible to work with. All I want is for them to send proof or remove it. She again stated that this account was not going to be removed until 2008 She told me she would send a copy of the bill from Verizon, I told her this will not work due to the fact that all that does is show there is a bill to be paid. I need help Please. I worked very hard in order to keep my credit report clean and I have 2 companies that are a nightmare haunting me.

Hi Glenn,

I understand the situation that you are facing. You need to keep your calm now. Go ahead and send a letter of validation attaching the proof that you got their later only in July. Check the date of the letter they sent.

Place a complaint at the Better Business Bureau.
