Should I dispute with CA or Bureau?

I owe two CA's over $5,000. I'm not disputing that. I have no intention of paying them. The debts are around eight years old. The SOL in the state that I aquired the debt is five years. The debts have dropped off of my report with two of the bureaus.

The third bureau still shows them. I was like, "How could that be?" I realized that they are reporting these debts from 2007 and 2008 when they are actually from 2001 and 2002. Since they 'shoulda done been gone' I don't want to pay them and re-age the accounts. Let alone pay them.

Is the fact that they have fallen off of the report from the other bureaus proof that these dates are wrong and the third bureau should fall in line? I would like to resolve this as quickly as possible. Playing certified mail tag with these @##-clowns doesn't seem like fun. Is there someone I can call and straighten this out?

Are the erroneous dates a hint that these CA's can't properly validate the debt? Or maybe if they validate the debt they will also prove that their dates are wrong?

What do you think the most efficient way of getting these dates fixed so the debt dissappears is?

Hi Sunshine

I'm afraid the only efficient way to get this debt off the records would be to pay them off. There is no other way. Even if your debt has dropped off the two Bureaus, a CA may still try to get back the money. When a debt is being sold to a collection agency it becomes new, however old it may originally be. So, the CA will try to collect the money. If you don't pay, you may have to face grave consequences. If the CA gets a judgment against you, you may be taken to court.

I would suggest that you talk to the CA and try and negotiate a deal that you can afford. These CAs are usually ready to negotiate. Tell them you can't pay them so much money and if they would like to settle for a negotiated price. Give it a try :)
