Why is my credit score going down?

I had some credit problems over 2 years ago...since then I have a good job and have been trying hard to pay everything off. The problem is my credit score is going down not up. I have paid off 3 accounts that were in collections completely. I also paid off my car all the way. I haven't been late on a payment since 07. I just don't know what to do next.

Hi mmtp777

You are doing everything right to get a reasonably better credit score. I think you should check your credit report to see if there has been any misrepresentation in the records. Sometimes if you have not checked your report in a while you may find false accounts being reflected in your report. This can cause a downward sloping score.

Also remember the older those collection debts get the better your chances of getting new credit as long as you keep all newer bills current. Paying these debts was a really good move on your part. Even though you defaulted and it shows on your credit record when you do apply for new lines of credit they will see you were willing to make good on your old unpaid debt.
