an old creditor tranfer/sold a charge off to a collection agency (date of last payment was 6/2004), can they change the date the account was open as 6/2008 ?

I think this date that they are projecting is the date in which they bought your account. Send them a DV letter.

I also believe this is what you are looking at. Sometimes the dates can be confusing. If the old creditor (original one) is still on your report then look at the date they have. This would be your actual date. If you need any sample debt validation letters there are some samples under letters of credit, which you can find on the left side of your screen. Remember to always send this type pf letter by cerified mail!
